Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has reflected on the progress made by the state, stating that the challenges of the past have given way to a stronger and brighter future. In a video that was shared by SYMFONI TV from 1.30, speaking at a church service to mark Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the governor expressed gratitude to God for guiding the state through difficult times.
“We went through storms last year,” he said. “But today, we are in a better, bigger, and stronger boat, and our mood is brighter and fresher.”
The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is a time to honor fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives for Nigeria’s peace and unity. However, Governor Fubara emphasized the importance of not only remembering the dead but also caring for the living. He pledged his administration’s support for veterans, their families, and the widows left behind.
“Why do we only remember them when they are gone?” he asked. “We must also focus on the well-being of those who survived and their families. Our government will ensure they feel honored and supported.”
Governor Fubara described widows and dependents of fallen soldiers as “casualties of Nigeria’s survival” and called for a shift in focus. He promised that the Rivers State government would take meaningful actions to improve their lives.
By providing strong support to veterans and their families, he said, the government would create a legacy of care and development. “Let it be remembered that we made the right decisions for them and that their lives were transformed for the better,” Fubara Added.
