According to a report by Daily Post, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential flagbearer in the most recent national elections. Dumebi Kachikwu, that Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), purposefully used his last days in office to send a political warning to President Bola Tinubu by supporting the ADC faction led by David Mark.
Kachikwu said that he had long expected this kind of behavior, characterizing it as Yakubu’s overt display of contempt for the president.
Speaking Thursday on Channels Television’s Politics Today show, Kachikwu criticized Yakubu for deciding to take a stand in the ADC’s leadership contest while a number of court cases pertaining to the issue were still pending.
This statement came after INEC publicly acknowledged the Mark-led ADC executives earlier Thursday by posting their information on its official website.
However, Kachikwu took a harsh stance against Yakubu, calling him one of Nigeria’s most unfortunate selections and charging him with leaving a failed legacy.
He stated: “I continue to have faith that the Nigerian courts will fairly settle this matter.
The judiciary will ultimately decide how this issue is resolved. “I never thought Yakubu would act responsibly on this matter,” he added.
