According to Al Jazeera, July 22, 2025, Hamas has publicly criticized the silence of Arab and Islamic countries on the escalating hunger crisis in Gaza, describing the situation as “systematic genocide and criminal starvation.”
The Palestinian militant group called for an urgent end to restrictions blocking aid, highlighting widespread starvation and malnutrition affecting the enclave’s two and a quarter million residents.
In a recent statement, Hamas expressed surprise at the lack of strong responses from regional governments.
They condemned the official positions as insufficient to address what they termed a catastrophe of historic proportions.
The group warned that this silence effectively encourages Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s policies, which Hamas labels as “starvation and genocide” against Palestinians.
Hamas highlighted that thousands of aid trucks are currently stranded on the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing, preventing critical supplies from reaching civilians desperately in need.
The group called on Arab and Islamic countries to “break the restrictions” that limit humanitarian aid access and to take a firmer political stance by severing all ties with Israel.
This includes expelling Israeli diplomats and ending all forms of normalization with the state, which Hamas accuses of fascism and occupation.
The statement underscores the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza, where hospitals are non-functional, food scarcity is widespread, and medical and humanitarian workers face ongoing threats.
This crisis intensified amid ongoing hostilities following the October 2023 conflict, which led to significant casualties and displacement in Gaza.
The war’s impact has also led to severe food insecurity, with 90 percent of Gaza’s population facing acute hunger conditions as international aid struggles to reach the area.
The urgency of Gaza’s humanitarian crisis is increasing as international and regional actors debate responses to the conflict and blockade.
Hamas’s call for action reflects deep frustration with what it perceives as insufficient engagement by traditional allies in the Arab and Islamic world amid mounting civilian suffering.
