In a post on his official X handle on Wednesday, 9 July 2025, Arc Uche Rochas, a prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, reacted to the appointment of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as Chairman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) board.
Ganduje, the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was named FAAN board chairman just days after stepping down from his APC position.
The appointment was announced in Abuja during the inauguration of the new FAAN board members, according to a report by Vanguard.
Rochas compared Ganduje’s appointment to a similar scenario in 2013 when Bamanga Tukur, then PDP chairman, resigned and was later made chairman of the Nigerian Railway Corporation.
He wrote: “It’s playing out the same way it did in 2013/2015. Bamanga Tukur was forced to resign and was later appointed Chairman of the Nigerian Railway Corporation.
“The outcome will still be the same. Very soon you will see APC vehicles being pelted with stones and sachet water up North.”
The appointment has sparked debate among political observers, who see it as another example of recycled leadership within Nigerian politics.
