Malam Garba Shehu, the spokesperson for former President Muhammadu Buhari, explained why Buhari was not present at the APC caucus meeting. The All Progressives Congress (APC) held its National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to Daily Trust, it was reported that the meeting was led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and attended by key APC leaders, including Vice-President Kashim Shettima, governors, the APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, members of the National Working Committee (NWC), and other important figures.

However, Buhari, former Kaduna State governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai, and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi were not at the meeting. Shehu, in an interview with BBC Hausa, explained that Buhari was invited to the meeting late, which is why he couldn’t attend.

He said, “President Muhammadu Buhari is not a caucus member of the party. He was supposed to attend the NEC meeting, but unfortunately the invitation to the meeting was forwarded to him on Monday and it reached him on Tuesday. For this, he could not leave Daura for Abuja even if he owns a private jet.”

Further talking, Garba Shehu also mentioned that although the former president was not physically present at the meeting, his spirit was with those attending.

He added that Muhammadu Buhari is one of the founding members of the All Progressives Congress, and he was nominated by the party for president twice. Shehu claims the former president remains a member of the APC, even though he didn’t attend the NEC meeting.
