Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has spoken about the 2027 presidential election. He said there is an unwritten agreement in Nigeria that power should rotate between the North and the South every eight years.

In an interview hosted by Parallel Facts on X (formerly Twitter), Peter Obi said that if that unwritten agreement is to be followed strictly then any southerner, including him, who becomes president in 2027 would have to leave office by May 28th, 2031.

In Obi’s words: “If you check the arrangement which is understandably what you can call an unwritten agreement, it is that power would go south and north. And if that arrangement is to be followed strictly you will see that anybody, not just me, who happens to come from that south as president in 2027 must be ready to leave on the 28th of May 2031. I didn’t say 29th.
