The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development cautioned Nigerians to be on alert for fraudsters attempting to exploit the recent confiscation of a 753-unit housing estate linked to former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

According to The Punch, it was reported that the Ministry clarified that the sale process for the estate had not yet commenced, and described anyone making such claims as scammers.

In a press statement released on Saturday and signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Badamasi Haiba, the Ministry stated on X that it had taken custody of the estate from the EFCC only a few days earlier and had not begun any sales process.

The Ministry added that it had received reports indicating that fraudsters were requesting unsuspecting Nigerians to pay ₦500,000 for a fake expression of interest form, while falsely claiming to have slots from the Ministry to sell the houses. It firmly denied the authenticity of these claims and urged the public to remain cautious.

However, while Senator Shehu Sani, who happens to be the former senator representing the Kaduna Central Senatorial District, and a member of the All Progressives Congress, was reacting to the development on his verified X handle, he said, “Any Nigerian with the money to buy a unit of those forfeited 753 Houses will not live in that outskirts where the Duplexes are located. He or she will just keep it as real estate investment. My view remains;the best for Nigeria is to share those houses to our Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education and Research Institutes.”
