According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday, November 1, 2025, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former aide to President Bola Tinubu and a respected northern elder, has urged Nigerians to remain united amid reports suggesting that former United States President, Donald Trump, may consider imposing sanctions on Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians.

He advised citizens not to allow such claims to cause further division, stressing that the insecurity affecting the country impacts all Nigerians regardless of their religious or ethnic background.

In a message shared on his verified Facebook page, Baba-Ahmed described the alleged plan as worrisome if it turns out to be true.

He expressed concern that the American politician may have been influenced by inaccurate narratives portraying Nigeria as a nation where one religious group persecutes another.

He emphasized that such portrayals fail to reflect the complex nature of insecurity in the country, which includes terrorism, banditry, and communal violence that cut across all regions and faiths.

Baba-Ahmed explained that the issue of insecurity in Nigeria is not a matter of religion but a national crisis affecting both Muslims and Christians.

He said that attributing the violence solely to religious persecution overlooks the root causes, such as poverty, unemployment, and weak governance.

He urged foreign leaders and organizations to seek accurate information before making decisions that could affect Nigeria’s reputation and stability.

The northern elder further warned that any sanctions or punitive actions by the United States would not help the situation but rather worsen the economic and social hardships already being faced by ordinary Nigerians.

He pointed out that such measures often hurt the poor more than the political class, leading to deeper suffering and division within the society.

He called on Nigerians to see themselves first as citizens of one nation and not as members of separate religious groups.

He said, “America will not fight a war for Nigerian Christians. It will only deepen the hardship of both Muslims and Christians alike.”

Baba-Ahmed reaffirmed that unity and collective effort remain the best path toward solving Nigeria’s security challenges.

He advised leaders and citizens alike to work together to restore peace, stability, and mutual trust.

He added that the country’s problems can only be addressed internally through cooperation and truth, rather than relying on foreign interventions or divisive narratives. View, More,
