In a recent video shared on Symfoni TV, the Rivers State House of Assembly reconvened for plenary in Port Harcourt after six months of emergency rule, with members commending Speaker Martins Amaewhule for providing stability and courage during the turbulent period.
The session began with the adoption of the votes and proceedings of March 17, 2025, the last legislative day before the declaration of emergency rule by President Bola Tinubu. Lawmakers described their return as a symbol of democratic resilience and a step toward restoring full governance in the state.
Hon. Franklin Uchenna Nwabochi, representing Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni I Constituency, praised Amaewhule’s leadership during the crisis. In his words: “You made us believe that we are fighting a just fight.” Nwabochi noted that the Speaker’s courage not only strengthened members but also gave Rivers people confidence in their representatives.
Other lawmakers echoed his sentiments, stressing that the Assembly’s unity during the political standoff was a result of Amaewhule’s determination to keep the institution intact.
The plenary also resolved to call on Governor Siminalayi Fubara to forward commissioner-nominees for the constitution of a new State Executive Council and present a fresh budget for the year. Members further resolved to review all major expenditures carried out during the emergency rule period.
With the legislature back in session, lawmakers pledged to align with the peace accord and work with the executive for the collective good of Rivers State.See, More, Here>>>>
