According to The Nation, The Speaker Martins Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly on Friday, July 12, held a valedictory session in honour of the late former member, Azubuike Nmerukini.
Nmerukini was a member of the House in the 4th Assembly, representing Port Harcourt Constituency III, and was the chairman of the House committee on transport.
He was said to have worked collaboratively with the executive arm in the development of the transport subsector in the state.
A statement signed by Amaewhule’s special assistant on media, Martins Wachukwu said at the valedictory session, serving and former members gave glowing tributes to the late former legislator.
They claimed he helped the 4th Rivers Assembly and the then-emerging democracy flourish and remain stable.
They made references to his knowledge of the state’s political structure and his traditional concerns contributions as one who held a traditional title.
Amaewhule praised Nmerukini in his eulogy, saying that he used his political acumen to his work.
According to him, Nmerukini was a philanthropist who mentored several people and utilised his money to improve the lives of his people.
Amaewhule expressed the House’s sorrow at Nmerukini’s passing at a time when his wise counsel would have had a big impact on the state.
According to him, Nmerukini continued to serve the state in several roles following his devoted service in the 4th Assembly, such as chairman of the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission and chairman of the Port Harcourt City Local Government Council.
