According to Trust TV, Musa Ayiga, a longtime ally of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, has recounted a striking episode from the 2015 presidential campaign involving former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi. Speaking in an interview, Ayiga highlighted a moment that captured Buhari’s humble nature and unassuming lifestyle.

Ayiga narrated that during the campaign trail in 2015, Amaechi paid a visit to Buhari’s personal residence in Kaduna. Upon arriving at the house, Amaechi was reportedly taken aback by the simplicity of the building. His surprise was so evident that he couldn’t help but speak out in disbelief, asking, “Your Excellency sir, is this your home in Kaduna?”

The encounter, as described by Ayiga, left a lasting impression. He explained that for a man who had once ruled as Nigeria’s military head of state and chaired the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF), one might have expected Buhari to live in grander surroundings. Instead, the house was modest—far removed from the typical trappings of power and privilege associated with Nigerian elites.

Ayiga noted that this incident illustrated Buhari’s deep-seated humility and personal discipline. Despite decades in top government positions, he chose to maintain a frugal and down-to-earth lifestyle. “He never allowed power to define his personality or dictate his way of living,” Ayiga added.
