FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has accused former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi of selling a Rivers State government aircraft to the former governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke for $5 million.

Speaking in an interview with Channels TV from 24:31, Wike raised questions about the transaction and demanded accountability for both the aircraft and the proceeds from its sale. “Amaechi sold one of our aircraft to his friend, the former governor of Cross River State Liyel Imoke, for $5 million. Where is the aircraft? Where is the money?” Wike asked.

The FCT Minister used the allegation to criticize what he described as Nigerian citizens’ passive response to political misconduct. “And if you look at Nigerians, we are so docile. We don’t know anything. It has come to the point where any politician can come and tell us and speak to you, and then you listen to such garbage that somebody will tell you, ‘Stop corruption in one month in this country,” he stated.

Minister Nyesom Wike disclosed details about a midnight security invasion of Justice Liman’s residence in Rivers State, revealing that Amaechi played a crucial role in resolving the situation. According to Wike, the incident occurred while a PDP leadership matter was pending before Justice Liman’s court.

Wike alleged that arrangements had been made for Justice Liman to deliver a judgment favoring Ali Modu Sheriff in the PDP leadership dispute. However, when it became apparent that securing the desired outcome would be difficult, efforts were made to prevent Justice Liman from proceeding with the judgment, he claimed.

The Minister further accused former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi of boasting about his involvement in the removal of Justice Walter Onnoghen from office. According to Wike, Amaechi claimed he was among those who orchestrated Onnoghen’s removal because they wanted the former Chief Justice to issue a ruling that would maintain Ali Modu Sheriff as PDP chairman.

Wike argued that such a judgment would have spelled the end of the PDP as a political party at the time. He characterized the situation as ironic, noting that the ruling APC government, led by someone who is campaigning against corruption, was allegedly orchestrating these judicial manipulations to benefit their political interests while potentially destroying the main opposition party.
