Honorable Leke Abejide has emphatically dismissed former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as a non-factor in the 2027 presidential election, arguing that he is not a “real politician” and lacks the grassroots support necessary to be a credible contender.
Speaking on the Mic On Podcast, Abejide stated that while he recognizes figures like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi as serious political players who can mobilize support, Amaechi is “out of the calculation.”
He contended that the ability to pull a crowd is a key metric of political relevance, a quality he believes Amaechi no longer possesses, thereby excluding him from any serious discussion about the future leadership of the country or the opposition coalition.
In his words: “Amaechi is not a factor in this. You can’t… he is not a politician. He was a politician before, but not a real politician. We are talking about people who can pull crowds. You can talk of Atiku, I agree. You can talk of Obi, I agree. But Amaechi is out of the calculation, forget about that one. With these two people, yes, we can have an agreement. Obi is talking ‘blah, blah, blah, he will do this.’ It’s easy to talk. We can say, ‘Okay, because he has only one term, let’s form this coalition to support him.’ Then we will tell him that in 2031, one of you will come out, and we can then join them. It’s an agreement, and it will be easier for one of them to become president than what they are doing now.
