According to reports by Anadolu Agency on Sunday, June 22, a senior advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has issued a stern warning to countries in the Middle East, declaring that any state permitting the United States to use its territory for military operations against Iran would be treated as a legitimate target.

The remarks come in the wake of intensified hostilities following U.S. airstrikes on key Iranian nuclear facilities over the weekend, a move Tehran has described as a blatant act of aggression and a violation of international law.

The advisor, whose name was not disclosed in the initial state media report, stated that Iran will not remain passive in the face of military threats originating from neighboring or regional countries. “Any country that provides support, bases, or airspace for American attacks against Iran has effectively joined the aggression and will be dealt with accordingly,” the advisor said, according to Iranian media.

This warning appears to be directed at U.S. allies in the Gulf region and beyond, many of whom host American military installations, including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Bahrain. Several of these countries have already expressed concern over the recent escalation and called for restraint on all sides.

Iran’s warning comes as tensions across the region reach critical levels. Over the weekend, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that American forces had struck three Iranian nuclear sites in Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan—marking Washington’s direct entry into the military campaign initially launched by Israel on June 13.

While the U.S. claims the strikes were aimed at crippling Iran’s nuclear weapons capability, Tehran has strongly denied any military dimension to its nuclear program and says its facilities are under continuous supervision by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

In the days following the strikes, Iran has activated its nationwide air defense systems, heightened military alert levels, and pledged to retaliate. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has been engaging in diplomatic talks with world leaders, while President Masoud Pezeshkian has publicly blamed the U.S. for deepening regional instability.
