In an interview with Arise News from 8:22, Kenny Okolugbo, consultant on communications and strategy to Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, disclosed that Akpabio is currently in court against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for defaming him on allegations of sexual harassment.
He stated that the matter has already come up for an ex parte hearing and will soon be heard again. Okolugbo made this clarification while responding to questions surrounding recent allegations against the Senate President by Adetokunbo Pearce.
He criticized Pearce’s remarks as irresponsible and misleading, noting that his claims about Akpabio being a criminal and unsafe for female senators were false and damaging.
He also confirmed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has no current or pending investigation against Akpabio, adding that previous inquiries had been concluded without any indictment.
He declined to delve deeper into the cases involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and former NDDC Managing Director Joy Nunieh, emphasizing that the court will soon make the truth clear to Nigerians.
Okolugbo urged the media to refrain from offering platforms to individuals who spread falsehoods against public officials.
He further highlighted the Senate’s legislative achievements under Akpabio’s leadership, including the passage of 52 bills, establishment of five development commissions, and active oversight on national security matters.
As he said, “I’ll rightly tell you that Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, is in court presently against Senator Natasha Akpoti on defamation and that matter has come up and it will come up again.”
“It has come up for an ex parte hearing, and it will come up here very soon. I do not want to comment further because I know that by the time the case comes up, Nigerians will be very clear on that issue.”
“We’ll see that what we have always said, that the Senator lied, will be proven. So that is not the reason I came here. I came here to dwell on the irresponsible statements that were made by Adetokunbo Pearce.” See, More, Here>>>
