Former Senator Elisha Abbo has made allegations that Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, was involved in the process that led to his removal from the Senate. During the tenth Senate elections, he described how he actively supported Senator Abdulaziz Yari’s campaign and positioned himself as a key strategist. He also mentioned that he was a key strategist.
A further allegation that he made was that Akpabio personally approached him in the early hours of the morning at his hotel, asking for his assistance. On the other hand, he declined, citing his dedication to Yari as well as concerns raised by former coworkers regarding Akpabio’s leadership. He insisted that he didn’t change his mind about not supporting Akpabio, even when the Vice President tried to persuade him otherwise.
“In this very studio, I accused Akpabio of being one of the people who came together to see that I was out of the Senate,” he said in an interview with Arise TV. “It was in this very studio that I made my accusation. (0:35) Because when I won election in the 10th Senate, I became like a de facto DG campaign to Senator Abdulaziz Yari. This is because I was elected to the Senate. Akpabio came to my hotel room at approximately two in the morning and pleaded with me to work for him. This is the very location where we are staying, which is in the Transcorp Hilton. And I disclosed to him that I am already committed to Senator Yari, which is the reason why I will not be working for you. Now, these are the reasons I have.
“I do, however, wish you the best of luck. And he came, and he is a Christian just like me, and he told me that I ought to work for him in order to make the Muslim-Muslim ticket more balanced. And I told him that the testimonies I had heard from the people who were a part of the 8th Senate contained negative information about you. When the Vice President called me to work for you, I told him that I would not be working for you. After that, I told him that I would not work for you.”
