Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called on Nigerians to embrace unity and resilience as the country marked its 65th Independence Anniversary. He gave the charge while addressing senators during plenary, a session that also saw Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan formally resume her duties in the upper chamber.
In the video from 01:28, Akpabio began his address by extending greetings to President Bola Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and to all Nigerians on the occasion of the national celebration. He described independence as a historic milestone that continues to remind the nation of the sacrifices made by past heroes.
“Let us extend our warm congratulations to the president and the commander-in-chief and to all Nigerians on the celebration of the nation’s independence anniversary,” he said.
The Senate President reflected on Nigeria’s journey since 1960, noting that the struggle for nationhood was neither short nor easy. According to him, the process of building a stable country requires consistent effort across generations.
“After we hoisted our flag of freedom 65 years ago, we are reminded that the journey of nationhood is not a sprint but a marathon. One generation handing the torch, like a relay of faith and sacrifice, to the next generation,” Akpabio stated.
He stressed the need for perseverance, even in the face of challenges, emphasizing that the responsibility of sustaining the nation falls on every citizen. “The flame may flicker, but it must never be allowed to die. May the labors of our heroes past continue to inspire us to build a nation that is free, just, and prosperous,” he added.
Akpabio acknowledged that Nigeria’s story has included both triumphs and difficulties. “Our country has walked through both shadow and sunshine,” he remarked, urging Nigerians to draw strength from their resilience as a people.
Akpabio noted that every voice in the Senate strengthens the democratic process. He underscored the importance of collective responsibility, stressing that the upper chamber must work together to deliver good governance and respond to the aspirations of Nigerians. See, More, Here>>>
