Dr. Bolaji Akinyemi, a democrat, human rights activist, and social crusader, in an interview with The Punch correspondent, addressed a range of issues including the hurdles facing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its coalition partners, the controversy around the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket, and President Bola Tinubu’s performance in office.

When Dr. Bolaji Akinyemi was asked about the statement by the Minister of Works, Mr. David Umahi, that those pushing for a coalition against President Bola Tinubu were faceless and lacked credibility, he disagreed strongly.

He argued that what truly lacked credibility was a government that dismissed every critic as faceless while refusing to acknowledge the visible suffering of citizens across the country.

According to him, this arrogance would only accelerate the government’s downfall. He stressed that the coalition was not faceless, as it was made up of unemployed youth, widowed mothers of kidnap victims, and disillusioned Nigerians. He added that rather than insulting reformers, Umahi should concentrate on his job of fixing roads.

When he was reminded that David Umahi also said that the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket that produced Tinubu and Shettima, is still in order, Akinyemi said, “Nigeria is not just a country; it is a delicate federation of faiths and ethnicities.

“The decision to fly a Muslim-Muslim ticket was a calculated insult to our plurality. It widened distrust.

“That ticket may have won an election, but it lost a moral opportunity.”
