More than two years after the 2023 Nigerian general elections, the Obidient movement, a grassroots campaign supporting Labour Party’s Peter Obi, continues to gain momentum, defying predictions of its decline.
Omotayo Williams, a prominent supporter, recently shared on X that the movement has not only persisted but has “multiplied” in strength and numbers.
Williams, posting under his official X handle on June 5, 2025, emphasized the movement’s resilience, noting that it transcends ethnic divisions. “The Obidient movement is not about tribe—it’s not Igbo, Yoruba, or Hausa. It is every Nigerian who is tired of the suffering, the corruption, and the lies,” he stated. He argued that the movement’s growth is fueled by increasing poverty and governance challenges, which continue to resonate with citizens across the country.
The post highlights a broader sentiment among supporters that the Obidient movement represents a collective demand for better leadership.

Williams suggested that the only way to diminish the movement’s influence would be to address systemic issues like poverty and improve governance to restore public hope. Since the 2023 elections, where Peter Obi secured significant support among young and urban voters, the movement has remained a vocal force, advocating for political change ahead of the 2027 elections.
