According to a report by The Sun Nigeria on August 3, 2025, Yabagi Yusuf Sani, the National Chairman of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), has launched a scathing attack on Nigeria’s electoral system and declared that the much-publicised opposition coalition seeking to unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 is already “dead on takeoff.”

Sani, known for his frank political commentary, did not mince words during an interview with Sunday Sun.

In his opinion, no meaningful change will come from coalitions or new alliances unless Nigeria first confronts the “rottenness” of its political system, particularly the flawed electoral laws and institutional manipulation that favour the ruling elite.

“After spending billions on INEC, they printed fake results and called it democracy in Nigeria,” Sani said, visibly angered by what he described as a pre-determined electoral outcome disguised as a democratic process.

He slammed the conduct of the 2023 general elections, questioning why only presidential results failed to transmit digitally while those for National Assembly and Senate were successfully uploaded using the same infrastructure and staff.

Sani maintained that the core issue lies not with who holds office, but with a constitution and system built to benefit the elite. He emphasized that no genuine democracy can exist when the president has unchecked powers, including control over security agencies, electoral bodies, and even the legislature.

He also took aim at defecting politicians, especially governors and legislators who abandon their parties after winning elections.

“The seat belongs to the party. If you leave, leave the office. Democracy is not your personal property,” he said.

Sani further argued that the opposition cannot survive under current conditions, as the electoral umpire (INEC), law enforcement, judiciary, and National Assembly all fall under presidential control.
