The Senator representing Abia North and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Privatisation, Orji Kalu, reportedly stated that his presidential ambition is currently on hold and would only be reconsidered after President Bola Tinubu completes a second term in office.
According to The Punch, it was reported that while he was speaking with journalists in Igbere, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State on Tuesday, Kalu was said to have emphasised the supremacy of the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that even though he harboured presidential aspirations, he could not go against the party’s position, especially since it had already endorsed President Tinubu for re-election in 2027.
The former Abia State governor reportedly expressed confidence in Tinubu’s chances of winning a second term, adding that the President was enjoying the benefits of party supremacy. Kalu was quoted as saying that as a loyal APC member, he would not work against the party’s decision and reiterated that his ambition would remain dormant until after Tinubu’s second term.
He reportedly concluded by saying that if, by 2031, he still possessed the energy and resources, there would be nothing stopping him from contesting for the presidency.
“He will enjoy it, and we’ll elect him President. At God’s own time, if I still have the energy, and the resources, after President Tinubu in 2031, who says, I can’t contest for the President? It is possible” he stated.
