Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has confirmed that he is actively considering a departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2026 governorship election. While speculations have long hinted at a possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the governor has not made a final decision. According to his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke is still in the process of consulting with key political figures before determining his next move.
According to report by The Nation on Saturday, July 12, 2025, as part of this consultation process, Adeleke recently convened a meeting with the Osun PDP leadership caucus at the Government House Banquet Hall in Osogbo. The meeting brought together several prominent figures including his deputy, members of his cabinet, federal and state lawmakers, party executives, and special advisers. The collective presence of this broad political circle highlighted the level of influence and support Adeleke currently commands within the PDP structure in the state.
Following the meeting, the PDP caucus unanimously passed a vote of confidence in Adeleke’s leadership. They expressed their readiness to support him regardless of which political party he ultimately aligns with. The group praised his performance in office and encouraged him to continue wide-ranging consultations before arriving at any major political decision.
A communiqué issued after the gathering reflected the general sentiment among party leaders, acknowledging Adeleke’s achievements in governance. They reiterated their loyalty to him and mandated him to keep engaging with political stakeholders across various levels.
Among those in attendance were notable political figures such as Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi, Senate Deputy Minority Leader Senator Lere Oyewumi, former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and various federal lawmakers.
