According to Chief Olabode George, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, alongside members of his family, including award-winning music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, personally shouldered the responsibility of paying state workers’ salaries for several months due to unpaid federal allocations.
Speaking in an interview on Nigeria FM Info on Saturday, August 16, 2025, George disclosed that Adeleke was compelled to intervene financially when Osun’s statutory local government funds were allegedly withheld by the federal government. He explained that the governor, his elder brother, and Davido collectively provided resources to ensure that workers were not left stranded.
“The federal government is owing Osun billions in local government allocations,” George said. “The governor told me he could not watch civil servants go home empty-handed. Together with his brother and Davido, they personally funded the payment of salaries so that morale and productivity in the state would not collapse.”
Addressing speculation about Governor Adeleke’s rumored plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), George admitted that Adeleke once hinted at leaving the PDP. However, he stressed that he advised him to remain steadfast, considering the sacrifices already made to sustain his administration and the trust placed in him by the people of Osun. “He called me and informed me that he would be leaving the party. I was shell-shocked, and I said to him, Your Excellency, please think very carefully. And deeply, too. Because, now, he hadn’t been paid,” he asserted.
George praised the governor’s resilience, describing him as a leader who “rose to the occasion in very difficult times.” He further noted that the Adeleke family’s financial intervention highlighted not only their commitment to Osun workers but also their determination to protect the dignity of governance in the state.
