Ahead of the PDP National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, criticized FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, over his insistence that Chief Dan Orbih must remain South-South zonal chairman.
According to The Nation, PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, clarified that Orbih’s tenure had expired in March, after which a caretaker committee led by Elder Emma Ogidi was constituted pending a new zonal congress. He stressed that the party would abide by its constitution and not yield to individual conditions.
Makinde confirmed that NEC would decide on zoning and other key matters on Monday. He noted that while broader consultations were ongoing, the priority was uniting and strengthening the PDP rather than prematurely discussing a presidential candidate.
He added that the caliber of leaders present at the southern consultative meeting—governors, former governors, party elders, and the BOT chairman—showed the party remained vibrant and committed to reclaiming its place in Nigeria’s politics.
The governor, who debunked the allegation of exclusion and defection of Governor Ademola Adeleke, also revealed the reason why Governor Adeleke was absent. He said: “Governor Adeleke was here. He came back into this country, I believe, this morning, and went straight to Osogbo to address some governance issues. But he said whatever we decide, he is with us.”
