Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has pushed back against claims made by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that some politicians are afraid to join the opposition because of pressure from the ruling APC government, as reported by Vanguard on Tuesday July 29 2025.
Speaking during a recent interview, Governor Sule said the accusations were baseless.
He explained that in politics, people often say things to gain attention, but the APC is focused on planning and building strength ahead of the 2027 elections.
He also compared the current political climate to the time of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
According to Sule, things were much different back then.
He said the challenges Nigeria is facing now are more serious, and the kind of unity that formed the APC years ago—bringing together parties like ANPP, APGA, ACN, CPC, and parts of PDP—is not what he sees in the new opposition coalition.
Governor Sule added that the APC is not just sitting back.
He revealed that more governors and senators are joining the party, and more defections are expected soon. He believes this shows that the APC is still strong and growing.
His words,
“Jonathan’s era is completely different from this era. We didn’t see what we’re seeing now during Jonathan’s time. We didn’t go through the challenges we’re facing now during his time. The calibre of people that came together to form the APC—ANPP, APGA, ACN, CPC, and even the new PDP—is not the same kind of thing you’re seeing in this new opposition.’’
