According to The New Telegraph, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has refuted claims that leaders from a political coalition have seized control of the party, calling these claims false and deceptive.
In Abuja on Wednesday, Interim National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi met with the party’s 37 state chairpersons and stressed that the goal of the meeting was to dispel rumors to the effect that the state chairpersons had been ignored or marginalized.
Abdullahi said, “We invited all the state chairmen to this meeting to reassure them that we have no intention of pushing them out.”
He also denied the existence of a widely shared list on social media that purportedly names newly appointed state chairpersons, stating that the ADC has not made any such changes.
“The ADC has no intention to shove anyone aside, we are here to work with the state chairmen as partners in building a stronger political party. They are reassured, and they are leaving Abuja today more confident than they were yesterday, knowing they are partners in building this coalition,” Abdullahi stated.
According to Abdullahi, the party’s constitution was strictly followed throughout the process that resulted in the selection of the ADC as a coalition platform.
Abdullahi added, “We are on solid legal ground,” he asserted. “If anyone has evidence that we have violated the constitution, we are open to being challenged. But as of now, no member of the ADC has disagreed with the process.”
