According to a report by The Daily Post on Sunday, July 20, 2025, The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of reneging on his campaign promise to provide uninterrupted electricity to Nigerians.
In a statement posted on Sunday, by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC reminded Nigerians that Tinubu had pledged to deliver 24/7 electricity within four years.
However, more than two years into his administration, the party said over 90 million Nigerians still lack access to power.
“President Tinubu promised uninterrupted electricity. Yet, the facts reveal a troubling reality. Since he assumed office, electricity tariffs have risen by 240%, while the national grid has collapsed 12 times, leaving millions in darkness,” Abdullahi said.
He noted that most Nigerians only receive four to six hours of electricity daily, while millions, especially in rural areas, remain entirely off-grid.
“Despite these alarming figures, there has been no major reform, no roadmap, and no urgency from the Tinubu administration,” he added.
Abdullahi criticized the government’s inaction, stating that many Nigerians are still forced to rely on fuel generators and mobile charging kiosks due to unreliable power supply.
He also reminded President Tinubu of his campaign statement that if he failed to fix electricity, he should not be re-elected. “Nigerians have not forgotten,” he warned.
The ADC called on the President to explain why the power sector remains stagnant and demanded a clear plan to address the crisis. “How much longer must Nigerians wait?” Abdullahi asked.
