Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has denied claims that he is secretly working for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu, as reported by Punch on Friday, 25 July, 2025.
The accusation was made by Shehu Yohanna, chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State.
Yohanna claimed that Lawal was planted by the APC to destabilize the ADC and weaken Atiku Abubakar’s chances in the 2027 presidential election.
Yohanna alleged that Lawal was trying to replace him with a loyalist in order to take over the party structure in the state.
Reacting to the allegations, Lawal strongly denied being an APC spy.
He described the claim as false and laughable.
He said it made no sense for anyone to think he would ever work for the APC or Tinubu.
Lawal insisted that his past support was only for the late President Muhammadu Buhari, not for the APC as a political party.
He explained that he never worked for any APC candidate in Adamawa State, even during his time in the party.
He stressed that supporting the APC now is impossible for him, as he had long distanced himself from the party’s politics and policies.
Lawal reminded critics that he had been openly critical of the APC leadership and their actions since the 2023 election.
He added that people who truly know him would confirm that he had no reason to return to the APC or back President Tinubu.
Lawal said he stood by his values and would not betray them to serve political interests he did not believe in.
“It is laughable for any normal person to say that I’m working for APC or President Tinubu.
The people who know me can say that the last thing I will do is to support the APC in my life,” he said.
