Barring any unexpected changes, it was reliably gathered that the anti-Tinubu coalition was on the verge of announcing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its chosen political platform.

According to information obtained by Sunday PUNCH, former Senate President David Mark had reportedly been selected to serve as the Interim National Chairman of the party. This decision was said to have been reached by key figures within the anti-Tinubu alliance, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, as well as former governors Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State and Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State.

Three credible sources were said to have confirmed that David Mark had agreed to take up the leadership role within the party.

It was also revealed that the coalition was still in the process of finalising the appointment of a National Secretary, particularly after former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola and Senator Ben Obi both declined to take on the position. Insiders within the coalition indicated that a consensus was expected to be reached soon regarding the post.

They also stated that the formal unveiling of the African Democratic Congress as the coalition’s adopted platform would take place later in the week. One of the reliable sources informed the correspondent that a meeting involving the coalition’s leaders was scheduled to hold in Abuja on Wednesday to resolve any outstanding matters.

The source said, “We would have also resolved the issue of the National Secretary, but Aregbesola turned it down. He cited age, and mentioned that his wife advised him to slow down. Senator Ben Obi also declined the offer. So, we will settle that later.”

Further talking, he said, “We had planned to unveil the party already, but Labour Party’s Peter Obi said he wanted to consult with his supporters, including a governor and some lawmakers. Hopefully, we will make the official announcement this week. And we will all leave our political platforms for the ADC.”
