According to a post on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, publisher and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has reacted to a recent Punch publication reviewing the legacy of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

The Punch report, titled “Yakubu’s INEC Legacy: From Tech Reforms to Technical Glitches,” published on October 7, 2025, examined the tenure of the electoral chief, highlighting the gains and setbacks recorded under his leadership, especially regarding the deployment of technology in Nigeria’s electoral process.

Responding to the report in an Instagram post on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, Momodu shared a screenshot of the Punch headline and Yakubu’s photo, accompanied by a reflective caption addressing the transient nature of power and leadership. “THERE’S ALWAYS A TERMINAL DATE… No matter how powerful you become, it is always didactic, and sagacious, to know the END will always come, sooner or later,” Momodu wrote.

The veteran journalist and politician noted that leadership positions, no matter how influential, are temporary and should be approached with humility and a sense of accountability. “No condition is permanent. What matters most is the legacy you leave behind — for in the fullness of time, history becomes the final judge of all men,” he added.

Momodu’s remarks is said to come amid ongoing public debate over INEC’s performance under Yakubu, particularly the controversies that trailed the 2023 general elections, where several opposition parties criticized the commission for what they described as “technical failures” and “lack of transparency.”
