Chief of Defence Staff Major General Olufemi Oluyede, speaking to journalists on his arrival in Borno State, stated that local communities in Borno and Yobe have a critical role to play in ending the insurgency gripping the Northeast.
Security analyst and senior Borno State correspondent Jesse Tafida has suggested that the CDS’s pointed remarks about locals may have been directly informed by a recent military discovery that some of the insurgents wounded during the attack in Kukawa Local Government Area were actually residents of that same community.
Speaking on TVC from 6:02, Tafida explained what the military discovered. “Now, what the Chief of Defence Staff mentioned clearly about locals must have been informed by what he had been told. Because during the attack that happened in Kukawa weeks ago, some of the wounded insurgents were identified by locals according to the military, and they are members of that local government area,” he said.
Tafida argued that this discovery is precisely what prompted the CDS to speak so boldly about community responsibility, reinforcing the message that defeating insurgency is not a task the military can accomplish alone. Read_More…
