Mrs. Eunice Bright Ekwok, who accused an Abuja-based doctor of stealing one of her twins during delivery at his clinic, has revealed that the doctor privately admitted to the act and pleaded with her not to expose him, as reported by vanguard.
According to a statement by her lawyer, Mr. Baba Isa, Mrs. Ekwok and her husband, Mr. Bartholomew Bright Ekwok, registered for antenatal care at Divine Reign Clinic, Sauka, Abuja.
A scan had earlier confirmed she was carrying twins. However, after undergoing a caesarean section on her due date, she was handed only one baby.
Initially, she was told the second baby was unwell and on oxygen, but later informed the child had died.
A month later, she returned to the clinic for immunization and was shocked to see the doctor’s wife with a baby that looked identical to hers and of the same age.
After confiding in her husband, they confronted the doctor at his residence.
The lawyer stated: “When the doctor and his wife were confronted, they initially showed remorse and handed the baby to our client with apologies.
However, as our client prepared to leave, the doctor’s wife physically restrained her and ordered the doctor to call the police.”The Ekwoks were arrested and allegedly coerced into signing a false affidavit admitting to defamation.
The police have since refused to conduct or release a DNA test, with conflicting claims about its status.
Despite police silence, Barrister Baba Isa has vowed to pursue justice: “This barbaric crime will not go unpunished.
We are taking steps to ensure justice for our clients.”The case filed against the Ekwoks is scheduled for May 27 at the Magistrate Court, Wuse Zone 2, Abuja.
