Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force Northeast Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, has announced that President Bola Tinubu has approved a salary increase for troops fighting in the Northeast.
Addressing the troops in a media coverage from 1:49 by News Central, Major General Abubakar conveyed the president’s personal concern for those on the frontlines. “The President has been very concerned about what is happening. Yesterday — I am sure you people read when the minister was speaking with all the service chiefs on the need to strengthen security. And right now, the Air Force has brought in additional aircraft to support our operations. But we must also always do our own part as soldiers. The President has just increased our salaries,” he said.
Abubakar also disclosed that having retaken Ngoshe, the military was now advancing toward surrounding communities and bracing for intense combat with the insurgents in the days ahead.
He identified that the ground troops were proceeding with caution to avoid civilian casualties, explaining that the need to protect innocent lives meant the forces required time to organise and coordinate their rescue operations effectively before pushing further into contested territory.
