A Nigerian Lawyer, Daniel Bwala, has stated that Nigerian senators does not earn N36 million as their monthly salary as some Nigerians believes. Daniel Bwala explained that the N36 million senators receives every month is constituency money which is meant to be used by senators for constituency projects.

Daniel Bwala made this statement during an interview with a journalist on TVC News Television from 4:57. Daniel Bwala said, “a senator does not collect more than N1.6 million as his monthly salary. People often talk about N36 million for senators and N15 million or more than N20 million for house of representatives.”

“In Nigeria, we do not focus on how money is meant to be used and as such, it is misused by the lawmakers. The N36 million does not belong to the senators because it is constituency money. A Senator is supposed to have constituency office which is fully furnished and the office is supposed to function as the secretariat of the constituency.”
