Hussain Abdul Hussain, a research fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, criticizes the celebration of a Palestinian leader linked to a devastating conflict, arguing such a figure should not be revered. He believes that in a liberal democracy, a leader who causes significant suffering would likely face public outrage and ousting.
In a post on his X, he challenges the idea of celebrating a “resistance leader” associated with loss, asking how such a figure can be acknowledged positively.
Hussain highlights the troubling notion that Canadians might honor this leader as a “martyr,” prompting questions on the morality of glorifying someone responsible for severe distress.
On his Verified X page he said, “I’ll put moral judgement aside. In which universe is a man who took Palestinians to the most devastating and losing war in their history a “resistance leader” who should be celebrated?
If he were an elected leader in a liberal democracy, he would have been thrown out of office in shame.
But no, these Canadians want to celebrate him as a “martyr?”
