Victory Eramo, a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, recounts a second harrowing incident in which she was molested by a stranger on a public bus shortly after the first attack. She believes the episode was orchestrated by her initial abuser, Awere, to maintain control and keep her silent, reflecting the enduring fear and hypervigilance that trauma can produce.
Speaking on the Lucky Udu Experience, Victory said that on a day Awere could not take her to school, she boarded a public bus. A man offered to let her sit on his lap, and she agreed, thinking she could save her transport money. During the ride, she felt his hand move under her skirt and assault her.
She said, “I was at the bus stop waiting for a bus to take me to school. When one came, it was full, but a man inside said I should enter and that he would lap me. I was happy because I thought I would save my transport money to buy sweets. While I was happy, I felt a hand underneath my gown. When I turned, it was the man that was lapping me. He was fingering me, and it was painful. In my head, it felt like Awere used that man to monitor me.”
