Mrs. Khairat Bello, daughter of the late prominent Islamic scholar Alhaji Muyideen Bello, recalled treasured memories of her father in an interview with The Punch, describing him as a bold preacher, a committed family man, and someone whose entire life was anchored in truth and service.

She said his humility, discipline, compassion, and wisdom continue to guide the family even after his death.

She recounted, for instance, a period when he secured a contract to provide toast bread each morning for the staff of a particular company. According to her, this was at a time when toasted bread was not yet common. She explained that the family would buy the bread, toast it themselves, and prepare the delivery, and that her father would join them in the work despite his busy schedule, simply to ensure everything was done on time.

When asked whether he remained sociable despite his demanding commitments, she explained that he was remarkably outgoing. She added that he possessed an extraordinary memory—so sharp that he could meet someone once and, a decade later, immediately recognise the person and recall their previous conversation in detail. If that earlier discussion had ended abruptly, he would pick it up from the exact point they left off.

She noted that he exhibited the same attentiveness at home. Even if months passed after an interrupted conversation with his children, he would remember precisely where it had paused. She said he spent almost the entire day attending to people and, as a result, barely had any time for himself.

Further talking, she said, “I remember a doctor once came to the house and warned him, ‘Baba, no more Lipton tea.’

“After they left, he simply told us he only kept quiet because they were guests. Then he asked, ‘Why won’t I take Lipton tea?’ and continued drinking it.”

She explained that he frequently opted for tea because it was quick and convenient, particularly given how often he was travelling. According to her, he was so sociable and so focused on attending to others that he regularly neglected his own personal care. View, More,
