According to Vanguard News, Brigadier General Maharazu Tsiga (rtd), a former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has described his terrifying experience being held captive by terrorists and kidnappers for more than two months. According to Tsiga, he and the other abductees were detained in a thick forest with hills surrounding it, brimming with hazardous creatures. He said that divine intervention was the only reason he survived.

We had to live with snakes and scorpions all the time we were there. The way they treated those of us whose ranks they knew, however, was the most horrifying experience. They would bring us out and use us as human shields whenever forces attacked them in the hopes that the military strikes would kill us. They wanted the plane to strike us. However, God is merciful.

He Said; “A day before I was released, just the day before yesterday, we suddenly noticed a hyena circling us, looking for food. And what kind of food? Us, human beings.”

Tsiga went on to describe a particularly terrifying incident involving an unexploded rocket: “A rocket was fired at the terrorists during an airstrike, but it didn’t explode.” Rather, they carried the unexploded rocket and buried it where I was sleeping so that it would explode if I touched it. But thanks to God’s grace, I lived.

He further emphasized how the kidnappers attacked his house because they thought military officers had access to government money. They think the government gives money to those of us in uniform. They attempted to break into my house for that reason. Since they were unable to, they proceeded to my house in Kaduna and demolished it, including the gates, using explosives.
