Security consultant Reverend Ladi Thompson has revealed how a police commissioner implicated in church burnings in Plateau State was promoted to Inspector General of Police, contrary to a recommendation by late Supreme Court Justice Niki Tobi.

Speaking in an interview with Channels TV, Thompson cited findings from the Niki Tobi judicial commission report. “Go and read the Niki Tobi report. In the Niki Tobi report, there was a recommendation that the commissioner of police who was complicit when the churches were being burned in Plateau State—the recommendation from Niki Tobi was that he was to be dismissed with ignominy. Instead, he was rewarded and became the inspector general of police in Nigeria,” he said.

He noted that concerned Nigerians had brought these reports to international attention, including the U.S. Congress, seeking intervention to protect citizens being killed.

He questioned Nigeria’s commitment to protecting its own people, asking, “Let’s forget about America. Are we saying we don’t value the lives of our people? Are we saying that we’re not aware that this thing had a religious cover?”

The security expert emphasized that he uses the term “religious cover” deliberately because the violence stems from what he described as a supremacist ideology rather than representing Islam as a whole.

Rev. Thompson clarified that countless Muslims across Nigeria are peaceful citizens, noting his own university experience with Muslim colleagues who are not involved in violence.
