Yakubu Adams, the Permanent Secretary of Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Works, recently addressed concerns about the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Project. This highway, meant to connect several coastal cities, will require some homes and lands to be cleared for construction. In a video that was shared by Channels Television from 15.26, during a stakeholders’ meeting, Adams spoke directly to people affected by these changes, explaining why the project is so important.

Adams emphasized that President Bola Tinubu deeply cares about this highway and its positive impact on the nation. He believes that once people understand the President’s vision, their support for him will grow. Reflecting on his childhood in Kano, Adams recalled how residents initially resisted demolitions for a major road expansion. But over time, that road helped the area grow into one of Kano’s busiest and most prosperous parts.

Addressing concerns over fair compensation and personal loss, Adams urged people to look beyond immediate impacts. He encouraged everyone, including traditional leaders, to support the project for the greater good. Adams admitted that some people might disagree with the decision, but he called it “the bitter truth”—the highway would bring development to the communities it passes through, enhancing lives and opportunities.

Adams concluded with a heartfelt appeal, asking for understanding, patience, and prayers for the President as the project progresses. He hopes that, despite the challenges, people will see the larger vision of a more connected, developed Nigeria.
