‎In a recent interview with Daily Independent on Saturday, March 28, 2026, Hon. Bosun Oladele, a former member of the House of Representatives and ex-Commissioner for Information and Orientation in Oyo State, has dismissed growing claims that certain political figures command the majority of Nigerians, describing such arguments as misleading and unclear.

‎Oladele stated that he finds it confusing when people argue that while the All Progressives Congress (APC) controls many state governments, other political figures or parties claim to have the backing of the people and stressed that such statements often lack clear meaning and do not reflect how politics actually works in Nigeria.

‎He explained that in a democratic system, the idea of the people cannot be separated from voters who are registered and actively participate in elections, according to him, these voters are usually aligned with political parties or specific candidates, making it difficult to claim broad support without electoral evidence.

‎Oladele noted that political strength is measured through votes and structured party support, not through general assumptions or public sentiment expressed outside the ballot box, he said it is inaccurate to suggest that any individual or group has the people without showing it through election results or organised political backing.

‎He further argued that supporters of political parties form the real base of democratic participation, these supporters, he said, are the ones who attend campaigns, mobilise others, and eventually cast votes during elections, without them, he maintained, no claim of popularity can be proven.

‎The former lawmaker added that political debates should focus more on measurable support rather than vague claims, he warned that relying on emotional narratives or social media popularity could mislead the public about the true balance of power.
