In response to the recent Federal High Court ruling halting Rivers State’s federal allocations, legal analyst Aba Ejembi has criticized the court’s decision to act without awaiting guidance from the Supreme Court on two pivotal issues.
In an interview with Arise News from 6:26, Ejembi argued that the High Court should have paused proceedings until the Supreme Court clarified the legality of certain lawmakers’ positions and the presentation of the state budget by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
“The Federal High Court…ought to have paused whatever it was doing to await the outcome of the decision from the Supreme Court as to the legality or otherwise of the decamping of these people…and the placement of the budget by Governor Sim Fubara,” Ejembi remarked.
The issue centers around the legitimacy of certain lawmakers, led by Amaewhule, who are seen by some as the only recognized members of the Rivers House of Assembly. Ejembi emphasized that while the High Court’s decision remains in place, respecting judicial hierarchy in such cases is crucial for reinforcing the federal system.
