According to a report by The Sun on Friday, March 27, 2026, a former Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism in Niger State and a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress, Jonathan Vatsa, has raised concerns over the possible adoption of a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket by the party ahead of the 2027 general election.

He indicated that such a decision could have serious political consequences for the party if pursued.

Vatsa made his position known while addressing journalists in Minna in the lead-up to the party’s national convention.

Drawing from his experience as a former publicity secretary of the party in the state, he stressed that the present political climate and shifting voter sentiments suggest that the strategy used in the previous election cycle may no longer be effective.

He explained that political calculations across the country have changed significantly since the last election, noting that the conditions that influenced voter behavior in 2023 are no longer the same.

According to him, the expectations of citizens have evolved, and the realities on the ground have reshaped how people assess political decisions and alliances.

The former commissioner emphasized that the Muslim-Muslim ticket adopted in 2023 may not yield the same outcome in the next election.

He pointed out that the arrangement, which once appealed to a segment of the electorate, has not delivered the level of impact many had anticipated, thereby weakening its appeal among voters.

He further stated that many people in the northern region, particularly among the Muslim population, are reassessing their stance on the ticket.

He noted that there is a growing perception that the arrangement has not translated into noticeable improvements in their daily living conditions, leading to a decline in its acceptance.

Vatsa maintained that repeating the same political formula in 2027 could prove counterproductive for the party.

He cautioned that relying on past strategies without considering current realities may expose the party to significant risks, especially in a political environment that continues to shift rapidly.

He said, “As I speak right now, majority of Nigerians, especially our Muslim brothers from the north, no longer believe in the Muslim-Muslim ticket. The outcome of that arrangement did not change anything in their lives.” Read_More…
