FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has addressed a statement made by former President Goodluck Jonathan, who had expressed concern over a ward chairman’s ability to remove a national party chairman.

In a live coverage by Symfoni TV from 0:04, Wike clarified that in the case Jonathan referred to, no ward chairman directly removed the national chairman from office. Instead, the ward suspended the national chairman from the party. Wike explained that once someone is suspended from their party, they can no longer hold the position of national chairman. He pointed out that suspending a person from their party essentially disqualifies them from maintaining any leadership roles within that party.

In Wike’s words: “I overhead some leaders in Mike Ozekhome’s book lunch. It is so unfortunate. I don’t want to reply to things. I heard some leaders say how can a ward chairman remove a national chairman. No ward chairman removed a national chairman. What the ward did was to suspend the national chairman from the party. When they suspend you from the party, can you still hold that position as national chairman?”
