In a recent interview with Daily Independent on Friday, March 27, 2026, Kenny Okolugbo, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Public Affairs Analyst, has stated that President Bola Tinubu is in a strong position politically, explaining that, at this time, Tinubu cannot be easily defeated by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Okolugbo described some of Tinubu’s early actions as bold and decisive, on his first day in office, Tinubu removed fuel subsidies, a move that many thought was risky, this decision came when Nigeria faced serious economic challenges, at the time, some observers believed the country was struggling and could collapse under pressure.
Despite the risks, Tinubu maintained his stance and guided the country through a difficult period, Okolugbo said that Tinubu shuddered through the storms and showed strong leadership when many doubted his ability to manage the nation, these actions, he added, demonstrated courage and determination in tackling tough issues.
Okolugbo noted that Tinubu’s decisions helped stabilize the country during a time of uncertainty, removing the subsidy was unpopular with some groups, but it signaled a clear commitment to addressing long-term economic problems, this, he said, strengthened the president’s credibility and influence among Nigerians.
He stated that practical and logical considerations show why Tinubu is difficult to challenge politically, he believes that both supporters and opponents recognize Tinubu’s leadership and resilience, these qualities, he argued, make it unlikely for any immediate rival, including Atiku Abubakar, to succeed against him.
Okolugbo highlighted Tinubu’s audacity and strong decision-making as key reasons for his current political advantage, by facing difficult economic challenges early and staying firm, the president has positioned himself as a leader who can withstand criticism and maintain support across the country.
”For now, practically speaking and looking at it logically, President Tinubu cannot be defeated by an Atiku Abubakar. President Tinubu took a very audacious move when he decided to remove the subsidy on the first day of his inauguration. He shuddered through the storms at a time when we thought this country was on its knees,” he said. Read_More…
