In an interview with Symfoni TV FROM 3:25, Honourable Robinson Ewoh, a former lawmaker from Rivers State, made bold claims regarding the political trajectory of Nigeria’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its key figures. He suggested that the ambitions of Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, played a central role in the party’s internal crises and the downfall of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
Speaking during the interview, Honourable Ewoh stated, “Rotimi Amaechi, the Governor then, nominated him and he became Minister under Goodluck Jonathan. Fortunately or unfortunately in 2015, he had an ambition to become the Governor of Rivers State.” He explained that the unfolding events led to a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly in Rivers State.
Ewoh elaborated on how Wike’s ambitions created a ripple effect that resulted in major political upheavals: “The ambition of Wike brought down Goodluck Jonathan, the ambition of Wike brought down People’s Democratic Party.” He noted that this ambition not only weakened the party but also resulted in a deep-rooted crisis within the PDP from 2015 onward.
In his remarks, Ewoh further attributed the defection of key figures from the PDP to the ambition-driven crisis Wike caused. He said, “Rotimi Amaechi and some few other Governors, left the PDP and supported APC.” This mass exodus of influential members was crucial in solidifying the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) as a dominant force leading into the 2015 general elections, which ultimately saw the defeat of the PDP at the national level.
