Political analyst Usman Yusuf has condemned the use of religious identity as a political strategy in northern Nigeria, describing the “Muslim-Muslim” ticket as a tactic aimed at winning votes rather than addressing real issues. He made this known in a video from 50:40 shared on Symfoni.

Yusuf argued that the approach is misleading, noting that many voters are now more focused on evaluating leaders based on their performance, especially in areas such as security and economic well-being. He described the strategy as a calculated attempt to appeal to sentiments rather than deliver results.

He also maintained that religious leaders in the north are becoming less willing to support such narratives, particularly given the current challenges facing the region. According to him, issues like hardship and insecurity have made it difficult for clerics to persuade people to back political figures on the basis of religion.
