Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has revealed that the military personnel killed in a recent bandit ambush in the state had responded to a distress call that turned out to be false, luring them into a deadly trap set by the attackers.

Speaking in an interview from 1:15 with Channels TV, the governor said, “I received the news of the ambush that the bandits carried out on our military. The military had received a distress call that bandits were planning to attack one of our communities here in Shanga, and the military prepared themselves to go and protect our people,” he said.

The governor explained that the intelligence given to the troops indicated the bandits were gathered at a specific location, but that information proved to be deliberately misleading. As the soldiers made their way to the village, the bandits were already lying in wait along the route and struck the convoy, killing approximately 11 military personnel.
