Samuel Nwanosike, the former Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area in Rivers State, has firmly rejected claims that the Supreme Court mandated the conduct of local government elections in the state within three months. In an interview with TVC News, Nwanosike called the assertion “a big lie and a deceit to the people of Nigeria” and criticized those spreading misinformation, particularly respected leaders.

Having attended the Supreme Court session in question, Nwanosike stated that no such order was issued in the ruling delivered on July 11, 2024. He expressed disappointment that prominent figures were misleading the public by claiming the court required elections within three months and urged people to verify the facts.

He also pointed out that the certified judgement, which he said was available in the TVC News studio, contained no mention of such an election timeline. “There was nothing like that in the copy with you in your studio. The judgement was delivered on July 11 by the Supreme Court,” he said, emphasizing that he had personally attended all the hearings in Abuja.

Nwanosike’s comments come amid rising political tensions in Rivers State, where debates over local government elections and the roles of political figures, such as Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor Nyesom Wike, have fueled public discourse.

“It’s a big lie and a deceit to the people of Nigeria and it’s shameful when people made this statement especially leaders we hold on high esteem, to come and say Supreme Court said they must do election under three months. There was nothing like that in the copy that is with you there in your studio. The Judgement of Court delivered on the 11th of July by the Supreme Court. By the Grace of God, I was seated in Court on that day. I made sure every of that case from the day of the first hearings and all the hearings. I was in Court in Abuja myself. There was no such thing in that Judgement” He said….Sêe _ Morê
