The Federal High Court has reaffirmed Julius Abure as the legitimate National Chairman of the Labour Party, dismissing claims from opposing factions within the party. This decision comes amid a growing internal rift in the Labour Party leadership, with notable members challenging each other’s legitimacy.

During an interview with TVC News FROM 0:28, Labour Party chieftain Abayomi Arabambi made strong statements criticizing former presidential candidate Peter Obi and Governor Alex Otti. Arabambi claimed that both Obi and Otti had no legal standing within the Labour Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) as outlined in the party’s constitution. He argued that the pair’s roles were limited to convention participation rather than active decision-making in party leadership.

“I think Mr. Peter Obi is trying to join the Nollywood of Nigeria by forming his own theatre group where they will now be entertaining Nigerians,” Arabambi quipped, alluding to Obi’s political activities. He further emphasized that neither Obi nor Otti were part of the NEC, and their influence should not be overstated.

The internal conflict in the Labour Party stems from disputes over party leadership and its direction following the 2023 general elections. While Julius Abure’s position as chairman has been affirmed by the court, the party continues to grapple with divisions, especially among those who supported Obi during the presidential race.

In his words;

“I think Mr Peter Obi is trying to join the Nollywood of Nigeria by forming his own theatre group where they will now be entertaining Nigerians. Obi has no locus as far as Labour Party Leadership is concerned. Alex Otti has no locus as far as Labour Party is concerned in our constitution. In our constitution, they are not members of the National Executive Committee, they are only members of the convention that is the Governor, Deputy, President and Vice President produced by the party. No member of the National Assembly is a member of our convention”
